The United States, the European Union and Britain plan to support Ukraine in the investigation of war crimes.

A joint initiative is to help with coordination and communication, and assist the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, which is responsible for prosecuting war crimes, according to a joint statement. The Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA) will also promote the rapid provision of funding and qualified personnel, it said.

The initiative will assist the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office to “document, preserve, and analyse evidence of war crimes and other atrocities committed in Ukraine,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

“Evidence of atrocities by members of Russia’s forces in Ukraine continues to mount,” he said.

In a first trial, the Ukrainian judiciary sentenced a young Russian soldier to life imprisonment as a war criminal. He had shot a civilian in the Sumy region.
