Texas gunman shot anyone ‘in his way’ in school massacre, police says

The teenage gunman accused of killing 19 students and two teachers at a Texas elementary school Tuesday opened fire at random, according to local police.

New York, 25 May 2022 (tca/dpa/MIA) – The teenage gunman accused of killing 19 students and two teachers at a Texas elementary school Tuesday opened fire at random, according to local police.

“The suspect made entry into the school and as soon as he made entry into the school he started shooting children, teachers, whoever’s in his way,” Texas Department of Public Safety Lieutenant, Christopher Olivarez, told KENS 5 late Tuesday.

Texas Governor Greg Abbot identified the suspect Tuesday as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, an Uvalde resident who was killed by police during the rampage.

Ramos allegedly shot his grandmother first Tuesday morning, then drove to Robb Elementary School and began his deadly rampage, possibly wearing body armor and armed with a long rifle.

The two teachers killed were identified by relatives as Eva Mireles, a 44-year-old bilingual special education teacher who taught fourth grade, and Irma Garcia, who had been at Robb Elementary for 23 years. Among the children killed were Amerie Jo Garza, Xavier Lopez and Uziyah Garcia.
