Putin tells German chancellor: Demands must be met for peace talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that he's ready to discuss ways to end his country's invasion of Ukraine ... but only if the conditions he's laid out since the start of the conflict are met.

Moscow, 4 March 2022 (dpa/MIA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that he’s ready to discuss ways to end his country’s invasion of Ukraine … but only if the conditions he’s laid out since the start of the conflict are met.

Putin told Scholz that he’s willing to talk to anyone who wants freedom in Ukraine. “However, under the conditions that all Russian demands are fulfilled.”

Those demands, which Putin laid out again, include: “demilitarization” of Ukraine; “de-Nazification” of Ukraine; a neutral and non-nuclear status for Ukraine; international recognition of Russia’s 2014 annexation of the Crimean Peninsula; and sovereignty for the breakaway Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.
