Skopje, 6 August 2021 (MIA) — Around 450 police officers, 165 motorcycle patrols, and 148 police vehicles were deployed across the country over the past 24 hours to help put out the fires and prevent new ones, according to the latest press release from the Ministry of Interior.
Police detained a 57-year-old person near the Shtip landfield fire who was found in possession of burnt springs in his Opel Astra vehicle. He said he had lit the springs on fire to sell as scrap metal. The police notified the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the appropriate charges will be filed.
Police also detained suspects loitering in the Vodno forest around 8 pm on Thursday. Appropriate charges will be filed in this case, as well, the release says.
The Ministry of Interior urges the public comply with the ban on entering forested areas.
Citizens are also urged to be responsible for their individual actions and to refrain from lighting campfires, setting garbage on fire, burning fields, throwing cigarette butts on the ground, and leaving glass bottles or other flammable objects behind that can cause a fire when heated up in the sun, the release adds. mr/
