Kyiv, 28 February 2022 (dpa/MIA) — Kyiv’s city administration has called on the public in the Ukrainian capital to only leave home if urgently necessary.
Fighting is still taking place in practically all parts of the city, the authority says in a statement shared on the messaging app Telegram.
People were advised to only leave home to obtain food supplies or medicine.
Overall, Sunday night was reported as comparatively peaceful apart from some fighting and battles with sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
The city was mainly busy with preparing its defense, which is why people will see new fortifications, tank traps and other defensive structures if they do leave their homes, the statement says.
Shops and public transport opened in the morning with metro trains running less frequently than usual.
A curfew remains in place between 10 pm and 7 am. Authorities also called on the public to take care of neighbors, especially the elderly or those whose relatives were defending the country.
They also asked the public to keep an eye on the homes of those who had left the city to prevent looting.
