Berlin, 10 June 2022 (dpa/MIA) — Formula One record champion Lewis Hamilton said he is “speechless” at being made an honorary citizen of Brazil, “one of his favorite places in the world.”
Hamilton posted his message on Instagram after receiving the honor. He has long made clear his admiration for Brazilian racing icon Ayrton Senna and won the first his seven world titles in Sao Paulo in 2008.
After winning at Interlagos last season Hamilton celebrated with a Brazilian flag on the podium and congress member Andre Figueiredo suggested making him an honorary citizen.
“Thank you Brazil, I love you, I can’t wait to see you again,” Hamilton wrote after Thursday’s confirmation vote.
