Biden allocates 500 million dollars to aid Afghan refugees

US President Joe Biden has allocated up to 500 million dollars to meet "unexpected urgent refugee and migration needs of refugees, victims of conflict, and other persons at risk as a result of the situation in Afghanistan."

US President Joe Biden has allocated up to 500 million dollars to meet “unexpected urgent refugee and migration needs of refugees, victims of conflict, and other persons at risk as a result of the situation in Afghanistan.”

“I hereby determine … that it is important to the national interest to furnish assistance … in an amount not to exceed 500 million [dollars] from the United States Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund,” Biden said in a memorandum addressed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and released by the White House.

In the note, Biden told Blinken he was “authorized and directed to submit this determination to the Congress.”
