New York, 27 October 2021 (dpa/MIA) — The Atlanta Braves won Game 1 of baseball’s World Series, prevailing 6-2 at the Houston Astros late on Tuesday.
Jorge Soler gave Atlanta the lead with a home run in the first inning.
The Braves led 5-0 after three innings but then suffered a tough blow when starting pitcher Charlie Morton had to be replaced with a fractured fibula.
He will be out for the rest of the series after being hit by a batted ball from Yuli Gurriel.
The World Series is played in a best-of-seven format. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday. The Atlanta Braves have won the World Series three times, most recently in 1995, and the Houston Astros once in 2017.
